couple kisses outside their wedding venue in madison on a rainy night

Eclectic & Modern Wedding in Madison | Kim & James

I’ve had a hard time holding myself back from sharing every single photo from one of my favorite weddings of 2022.

This eclectic and modern wedding in Madison was everything I knew it would be and MORE!

From the first phone call with Kim and James, I knew that they were a couple after my own heart. They made their wedding day totally theirs with simple design details that really reflected them and their quirky personalities. They’re the kind of couple you just wanna be friends with, ya know?

They started out their day getting ready in the Monona Terrace. Their details were simple and elegant with a twist on the unique (look at those STRAWBERRY SHOES!!!!!). Kim bought her flowers THAT MORNING at the farmers market, did her own makeup and hair, and hung out with her bridesfolk before getting ready.

After everyone was ready, we met the guys at the capitol for Kim and James’ first look, knocking out all the wedding party photos before the ceremony (key for a smaller wedding day!). We got lucky with limited capitol visitors and a lovely cloudy day (perfect for portraits, y’all).

Their ceremony was simple and sweet. It was truly tailored to them both by their officiant. We took family photos after the ceremony with the gorgeous capitol view in the background. I convinced them to take a few more portraits on the roof of the terrace.

The Bur Oak hosted their reception and it was one of the coolest decorated events! The table decor of disco balls, dinosaurs and beautiful florals and some extra sparkles was literally my dream come true. They filled their evening with so much dancing and fun before I convinced them to take a few final photos in the rain.

Days like this are why I photograph weddings. There was so much love in the air from the minute I said hi to the last cowbell bang. Eclectic and modern weddings in Madison are always some of my favorite. Don’t be afraid to be yourself and fill your day with intentional details and choices! You will be so much happier when you do!
