Madison Capitol Winter Engagement Session | Emily & Nick

Emily and Nick met with me on a cold morning the week of Christmas to capture some gorgeous photos in Madison’s iconic capitol building. Their Madison Capitol winter engagement session was the perfect way to end the year!

Madison’s capitol building is one of my favorite places to photograph sessions, elopements and weddings! This is no surprise because the capitol building is right in the heart of the city. There’s always something going on downtown with the majestic building typically the start of the show.

Each summer, The Dane County Farmer’s Market is held on the square. It’s so much fun to stroll around the square with your partner and grab a coffee while you look through booths and local merchants. In the winter, the capitol building is one of the best places for photos because of the gorgeous interior.

The colorful marble and gold details are the perfect setting for any type of photo session. The skylights let in so much natural light it’s easy to capture people as they walk through and explore the building.

For Emily and Nick’s session, I knew that the capitol would be the perfect setting because, first of all, it was freezing outside! It’s always a good option to go inside when it’s cold, and on this day, we needed it.

We explored all of my favorite spots including the marble stairs, the beautiful archways in each hallway, and more. After, we walked outside for a few quick photos of the exterior of the building. With it’s marble columns and magnificent dome, the outside of the Madison Capitol building is the best background.

I’m so excited for you to see these photos from Emily and Nick’s Madison capitol winter engagement session and am looking forward to their wedding in 2024!
